tai chi chuan typology
I propose to present here my personal typology concerning the individual or group practices of the different styles of tai chi chuan.
- Health tai chi chuan(s) which could be translated as 太極拳養生: characterized by the emphasis on the psycho-motor aspects, the medically supervised effects, possibly on the health of the practitioners... the target audience would be rather elderly and starting the practice late and in a less sustained and regular manner, on average...
- The tai chi chuan styles, elegance and beauty which could be translated as 太極拳風格,優雅美麗: emphasizing the practice environment, for example with the Arts of Feng Shui, on the elegance and refinement of practice outfits and on aesthetic and gestural beauty
- The tai chi chuan forms which could be translated as 太極拳形式: emphasizing the gestural formalism of tai chi chuan, through a very structured and more supervised educational approach
- Martial tai chi chuan which could be translated as 武術太極拳: emphasizing the martial effectiveness of the practice
- tai chi chuan and free movements which could be translated as follows: rather linked to what is commonly called the 4th duan, here we go beyond the framework of tai chi chuan sensu-stricto to enter more personal spheres creative and more individual...
